Beyond Vision 2020: Growth With Equity In The New Decade

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Vision 2020 has crumbled to dust – it was obvious Malaysia will not become developed, according to World Bank standards this year. The new 10-year Shared Prosperity Vision, announced October last year with Mahathir as Prime Minister looks short on the real stuff to inject some pep, verve and spirit into the economy. What will it take to put a moribund economy back on track and go back to the basics – growth with equity? How do you make the economy more productive – the only way to increase incomes? What policies do you implement for the short, medium and long terms and what is needed to make this happen? The webinar forum was moderated by P. Gunasegaram, executive director of Sekhar Institute and editorial consultant at The Vibes and Patrick Teoh as the MC of the webinar. Opening address by – Datuk (Dr.) Vinod Sekhar, founder of Sekhar Institute Speakers: 1. Prof Jomo Sundaram – economist and former member of the Council of Eminent Persons 2. Dr Firas Raad – country manager for Malaysia, World Bank 3. Tawfik Ismail – social activist, former MP and corporate figure 4.
